ACADEMY REPORT | BURTON ALBION 4-1 BRADFORD CITY

29 April 2024

BURTON Albion's Professional Development Phase side continued their perfect start to the Merit League with a convincing 4-1 win over Bradford city on Friday afternoon.

Kiyan Baker-McKay's 20 minute brace was added to by Conor Pace and Kia Svarc, earning the Young Brewers a well-deserved three points.

Albion got off to the perfect start and found themselves a goal to the good inside the first five minutes. Conor Pace played an inch-perfect pass to pick out the run of Baker-McKay who smashed the ball into the far corner, to give the Brewers the lead.

Baker-McKay added his second 15 mintues later as the winger got on the end of a Chè Ranger cross to double the Brewers' lead.

The Brewers kept pushing for a third goal and a great chance presented itself to Kia Svarc, after Josh Taroni's driven pass was cleverly dummied by Jack Newall, sending the striker through on goal, however Svarc's shot whistled wide of the Bradford net.

Eventually, the third came in spectacular fashion. Conor Pace lined up a free-kick from 25 yards before curling the ball into the top left corner, leaving the Bantams' 'keeper no chance and giving Albion a three goal lead going into half time.

HALF-TIME | BURTON ALBION 3-0 BRADFORD CITY

The Brewers controlled the majority of the second half, keeping the ball and looking dangerous on the wings. Crosses from both sides caused the away side problems and it was a cross that almost brought about Albion's fourth. Baker-McKay knocked the ball down to Jack Newall who fired his shot wide from inside the area on 71 minutes.

The home side didn't have to wait too much longer to add to their tally as Spencer Cook lobbed the keeper from outside the box with a shot-cum-cross with 15 minutes to go.

Credit to Bradford who kept going for the full 90 minutes and the away side got their reward late on, as the Brewers failed to clear a corner leading to a scrappy consolation.

The Brewers ended the game with ten men after forward, Svarc was sent off for dissent towards the officials.

The Young Brewers look to continue their unbeaten start to the Merit League as they face Mansfield Town next Saturday.
